It was in our intentions to visit different cultural villages, to learn more about the traditions and practices for indigenous groups. In this area we had references for the Ndebele villages, but the information available indicated that one of them was really abandoned and the other was closed during the weekend; even though we were almost at the point of aborting the Ndebele cultural village visit, Marce decided to make a last search to see whether we could find new information. Open Africa has in one of the routes the village which we wished to visit, and a phone number to make contact with Petrus, a guide experienced in that area.

Una de nuestras intenciones era visitar diferentes villas y aprender más sobre las tradiciones y prácticas de los grupos nativos. On Sunday, at 15:00, we called Petrus, and he answered the phone: we explained our situation and wishes, and Petrus in a open and generous way activated a plan to fulfil our wish. The first point was that the Ndebele Cultural Village and Museum, was no longer in the place which google maps indicated, so we received new instructions on how to arrive. In addition, Petrus gave us the phone number of Sam, a person close to the cultural village who would organise our visit. We arrived at the place at 17:15, the guard received us and asked for the motive for our presence, at the same moment a car arrived with a lady named Sibongile. She organized everything, and one minute later we were walking with her learning about Ndebele people.

The Ndebele were hunting and gathering people, with a deep knowledge of their land and the options around them, they used to live in small communities and shared the responsibilities around home, food, and care. They lived in small rounded houses built with mud, flexible wood, and cow dung. With a mud seat in front of the small entrance, a fire place in the centre, and a ventilation structure on the wall.

Los Ndebele fueron cazadores y colectores, con un conocimiento profundo de la tierra y las opciones que los rodeaban, solían vivir en pequeñas comunidades y compartían las responsabilidades por la casa, la comida, y el cuidado. Vivían en pequeñas casas redondas construidas con barro, madera flexible, y estiércol de vaca. The original houses evolved with time, making the houses bigger and more safe; with this evolution, the people, especially the women, started to create decoration principally inside the home but also outside, with a predominance of geometric patrons. They produced the colours with minerals, without agglutination material, and for this reason with heavy rain the colour on the outside wall would wash away and so it was necessary to redo it.

With exposure to other groups and cultures, not only did the shape and configuration of the dwelling change, it also was possible to introduce more durable paint, making the decoration last.

After one and a half hours of our learning session, we received a gift from Sibongile; our tour was free, our interest in her culture and tradition was enough reward. Enjoying this generosity we continued our trip to Pretoria and once there went in search of a restaurant; we discovered that our options were very limited and the hotel was the only realistic one.

Después de una hora y media de nuestra sesión de aprendizaje, recibimos un regalo de Sibongile; nuestra visita era gratis, nuestro interés en su cultura y tradición fue suficiente recompensa. Disfrutando esta generosidad continuamos nuestro viaje a Pretoria y una vez llegamos fuimos en busqueda de un restaurante; descubrimos que nuestras opciones eran muy limitadas y el hotel era la único realista.

Our visit to Pretoria was short, we spent some time in a music store, trying to discover new artists for us - after an hour of exploration we left the place with some new sounds for us, we walked around the centre, with a high level of awareness, definitely we were a target for at least one guy, but everything was fine at the end. The other part of our visit was to Freedom Park, a very good exhibition of history, which shows at least part of the range of multiple perspectives of society with respect to life in this country. The exhibition includes beautiful media art works.

Nuestra visita a Pretoria fue corta, pasamos un tiempo en una tienda de música, tratando de descubrir nuevos artistas para nosotros - después de una hora de exploración dejamos el lugar con algunos nuevos sonidos para nosotros, caminamos por el centro, con un alto nivel de conciencia, definitivamente fuimos un objetivo para al menos un chico, pero todo estaba bien al final. La otra parte de nuestra visita fue a Freedom Park, una exposición muy buena de la historia, que muestra al menos parte de la gama de múltiples perspectivas de la sociedad con respecto a la vida en este país. We arrived in the early evening to Japie's and Hilda's home, where we spent three days of enjoyment, good conversations, a lot of interchange of information, and loving kindness. Hilda and Jamie shared with us the customs and traditions of their families and the people in South Africa, they introduced to rusks, a dry seed biscuit with a sweet touch, delicious with coffee in the mornings; the braai: we experienced this tradition fully - from the starting point of making the fire until the point in which you fill a complete sense of satisfaction and lose the sense of reality, that experience included: skilpadjies, lamb chops, salads, and all the delicious things associated with these.

Llegamos por la tarde a la casa de Japie y Hilda, donde pasamos tres días de disfrute, buenas conversaciones, mucho intercambio de información y cariño. Hilda y Japie compartieron con nosotros las costumbres y tradiciones de sus familias y la gente en Sudáfrica, nos introdujeron a rusks, una galleta de semillas secas con un toque dulce, deliciosa con café por las mañanas; el braai: hemos experimentado esta tradición plenamente - desde el punto de partida de hacer el fuego hasta el punto en el que llena un completo sentido de satisfacción y perdida del sentido de la realidad, que la experiencia incluye: skilpadjies, chuletas de cordero, ensaladas, y todas las cosas deliciosas asociadas con estos.

Japie has a wonderful workshop in which he enjoys his creativity, producing and transforming materials into new objects, a balance mixing art with practicality. Hilda is not only an expert in connecting with others and introducing new elements and directions to life, also and more specially, has a beautiful capacity to make every moment of life special and unique. All the time we spent together has a special and unique touch which will be in our memories for ever. Japie and Hilda thanks so much for your loving presence.

We visited one of the caves associated with the Cradle of Humankind; there not only could we appreciate the beauty of the limestone cave, and the history of the place; we also could enjoy the game park alongside and see the famous white lions.

Visitamos una de las cuevas asociadas con la Cuna de la Humanidad; no sólo podíamos apreciar la belleza de la cueva de piedra caliza, y la historia del lugar; también podríamos disfrutar el parque de anmimales silvestres junto y ver los leones blancos famosos.

In Johannesburg we enjoyed the university area with Wits Art Museum and the Origins Centre, which offered us a huge insight of the first populations and the San people; at the same time we appreciated great art work. To complete the experience we spent an enjoyable early evening in the Maboneng area with a lot of contemporary stores and art galleries to see the emerging art in the city.

En Johannesburgo disfrutamos la zona universitaria con Wits Art Museum y el Centro de Origins, que nos ofreció una gran visión de las primeras poblaciones y la gente de San; al mismo tiempo apreciamos grandes obras de arte. Para completar la experiencia pasamos una agradable tarde en la zona de Maboneng con un montón de tiendas contemporáneas y galerías de arte para ver el arte emergente en la ciudad.
