La siguiente foto describe el paisaje del 90% de la ruta. Los bosques de Miombo, árboles de ramas onduladas y formas no predecibles, se mezclan con pastos y otros arbustos. Dado que sus copas nunca se cierran, la vegetación de la base crece, produciendo dos paredes laterales que no permiten ver nada más allá.
The following photo shows the scenery for 90% of the way. The Miombo forest, trees with undulating branches in unpredictable shapes, interspersed with grasses and bushes. Given that the canopy is never closed, the ground vegetation grows, creating a wall on either side of the road through which nothing can be seen.
Durante los 200 primeros km, la ruta es una de esas para no repetir, huecos profundos, pista rizada por el sobrepeso de los vehículos, borde de carretera erosionados, zanjas profunda a cada lado de la vía y una ruta estrecha. A eso se le suman controles de policía frecuentes, un tráfico altísimo de tracto mulas y lluvia, aguaceros intensos para completar la faena.
During the first 200 Km of the journey, the road was one of those one would wish to avoid repeating; deep potholes, surface rippled by the passage of overloaded vehicles, deep drop-offs at the borders of the narrow "carriageway". In addition, there were frequent police checkpoints, many tractor-trailers / articulated trucks, and rain - heavy downpours - to complete the scene.
Durante aproximadamente 400 millas los dos únicos productos ofrecidos fueron Carbón vegetal y gallinas. Entre las milla 400 y 600 entraron a la oferta tomates, papa dulce y calabaza, todos bien organizados en pirámides sobre Baldes y escobas de paja, ya hacía el final de la ruta observamos productos de cerámica y mayor diversidad de vegetales, pero el carbón vegetal es sin duda un ícono nacional de la ruta.
In about the first 400 miles the only products for sale at the roadside were charcoal and chickens. Between 400 and 600 miles tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin appeared, all well-presented in pyramids on top of buckets, as well as straw brooms, and at the end of the route we saw pottery and a wider range of vegetables, however without doubt charcoal is the iconic roadside product.
Por la lluvia y seguramente por la gran concentración de tracto mulas, nos tocó sortear 7 accidentes de tránsito con bloqueo parcial de la vía, incluyendo un carrotanque lleno de combustible, lo cual nos dejó ver la práctica consistente de señalización de las rutas para advertir accidentes: cortar ramas de los arbustos y ponerlos discretamente sobre el asfalto en cantidad entre 5 y 7, para al final a un metro del carro poner un triángulo. Tenemos que confesarles que con la lluvia y la verdura al lado de la vía, no es posible ver las ramas en el piso oportunamente.
As a result of the heavy rain and the high concentration of tractor/trailers (articulated lorries) we had to navigate past 7 accidents partially blocking the road, including one involving a loaded gas/petrol tanker, which demonstrated the standard practice for warning of immobilised vehicles - cutting down branches from nearby trees or bushes and putting several of them discreetly in the road, with the obligatory warning triangle placed a metre or so from the vehicle. We have to confess that in the combination of rain and the profusion of greenery it was not possible to see these natural warnings opportunely.
Nuestra idea de llegar a Lusaka fue imposible, así que nos quedamos en Mkushi, en el Forrest Inn campside, cuando llegamos no habían camas disponibles pero podríamos acampar, así que tuvimos una rica cena y organizamos el carro para dormir. Instalamos los mosqueteros para las ventanas, dispusimos los objetos en los lugares apropiados, última visita al baño y tiempo de dormir en nuestra cama portátil. Fue una noche deliciosa, fresca y sin lluvia. Cada cosas funcionó bien y en cuestión de minutos estábamos durmiendo placenteramente, al día siguiente ambos disfrutamos el placer de una ducha caliente al amanecer.
Our idea to reach Lusaka approved impossible, hence we stayed in Mkushi, in the campsite of the Forest Inn, since there were no rooms available when we arrived however we were able to camp, so we had a delicious dinner and then set up the car to sleep. We installed the mosquito nets on the car windows, with the animal-proof guards, put everything in its place, made a last trip to the bathroom, and were ready to sleep in our mobile bed. It was a delicious night, fresh, and without rain. Everything worked well, and in minutes we were sleeping peacefully. The following morning we both enjoyed a hot shower at dawn.

Rain, rain, and more rain! Added to which the rumble of truck tyres.
Llegamos a nuestro alojamiento exhaustos, habíamos completado 13 horas conduciendo, pero todo el cansancio se esfumó, al apreciar el Zambezi de noche con la luz de la luna y escuchar el sonido de los hipopótamos mientras mastican con calma sus hierbas favoritas. Tiempo para estar, respirar despacio, disfrutar la brisa y dejarse llevar en el abrazo de un té caliente.
We arrived at our night stop exhausted, having completed 13 hours of driving, however our fatigue evaporated on seeing the Zambezi under the light of the moon and hearing the grunts of hippopotami enjoying their evening grazing. Time to be, to breathe more slowly, enjoy the night breeze and a cup of tea.

Estoy leyendo en desorden pero parece que no afecta la lectura. Las palabras que más me emocionan están relacionadas con la comida, el baño, y el descanso!
