South Luangwa, el lugar de la abundancia / South Luangwa: the place of abundances

Como todos los lugares que visitamos en Zambia éste no iba a ser la excepción, largos trayectos y siempre dos días para llegar al destino. Durante el primer día, llegamos hasta el río Luangwa, un mercado local capturó  nuestra atención y decidimos caminar alrededor para explorar un poco más, un fruto local pequeno, que es delicioso cuando esta verde, cestería local y pescado seco en todos los lugares. Las mujeres que vendían fruta, estaban comenzando su almuerzo, al menos 15 persona entre mujeres y ninos compartían la comida tradicional en Zambia Nshima con vegetales cocidos, amorosamente nos ofrecieron probar su comida y expresaron jubilo ante nuestra disposicion a probar y disfrutar, cómo no hacerlo, los fríjoles mas ricos de todo este viaje los probamos allí, pero la generosidad de su comportamiento alimentó nuestro espítiru.

As for all the other places we visited in Zambia, this was no exception, long trips and it always took two days to reach the destination. During our first day, we arrived at Luangwa River; a small local market took our attention, and we decided to explore, we saw everywhere a small local fruit, delicious when it's green, local baskets, and dried fish. Women who were selling fruit were starting their lunch,: at least 15 people. women and children, were sharing traditional Zambian food - nshima with cooked vegetables, they generously offered to share their food and expressed joy at our willingness to try, and our enjoyment - how could we not do so; the most delicious beans of all this trip we tried there, but the generosity of their behaviour nourished our spirit.

Nos tomo siete horas llegar a Luangwa, en la pequeña villa además de algunos puestos de mercado en la ruta y personas caminando o en bicicleta de un lado para otro, junto con algunos niños jugando, encontramos la tienda del proyecto Luangwa, una iniciativa que vincula más de 100 mujeres en la elaboración de toallas higiénicas reutilizables que se donan a mujeres de diferentes villas alrededor, además producen otros artículos para la casa y para vestir, así como artesanía.

We took seven hours to arrive in Mfuwe, the portal to South Luangwa; in the small village, in addition to small market stalls, people coming and going, walking or cycling, and children playing in the street, we found the store of Project Luangwa, an iniciative which links more than 100 women to create reusable sanitary towels and supply them to the women in the villages close by; in addition they create various products for the house, clothes, and crafts.

Llegamos a Wildlife Camp al atardecer, con apenas tiempo para ubicar nuestro carro en un sitio de camping y disfrutar la caída del sol en la rivera del río, con el sonido de los hipopótamos alrededor.
En la noche el llamado de los leones interrumpió nuestro sueño, tres leonas estaban cerca del campamento en sus actividades nocturnas.

We arrived at Wildlife Camp just before the sunset, with enough time only to set up our car and enjoy the sunset at the river, with hippo sounds around us. During the night lion roars broke our sleep, three lionesses were around the camp in their nocturnal activities.

Dedicamos los siguientes dos días a explorar el parque, las rutas cerca del río fueron generosas en la observación de animales, además de ofrecernos hermosos paisajes con árboles altos y grandes posibilidades a apreciar también aves.

We spent the next two days exploring the park, the routes near the river were generous in the observation of animals, besides offering us beautiful landscapes with tall trees and great possibilities to appreciate birds too.

La población de hipopótamos es inmensa y es fácil observarlos fuera del agua disfrutando del sol o explorando los pastos alrededor. Las jirafas del parque son de la subespecie camelopardalis thornicrofti,más pequeñas y con un tipo de parche más pequeño, aparecieron cerca de las lagunas y del río explorando las hojas frescas de los árboles altos, verlas rodeadas de verde utilizando a plenitud su altura es hermoso, pero también pudimos verlas sentadas en el suelo para dormir.

The population of hippos is immense and it is easy to observe them out of the water enjoying the sun or exploring the surrounding vegetation. The park's giraffes - which are of the subspecies Giraffa camelopardalis thornicrofti, smaller and with a smaller type of patch - appeared near the lagoons and the river exploring the fresh leaves of tall trees; seeing them surrounded by green using their height to advantage is beautiful; we also saw them sitting on the ground to sleep.

Grupos grandes de elefantes se cruzaron la nuestro camino varias veces, su población ha sido controlada para asegurar la protección del bosque, verlos siempre resulta atractivo para nosotros, esta vez poder observar a una elefante con su pequeña cría en el bosque fue superior a cualquier otro avistamiento.

Large groups of elephants crossed our path several times, their population has been controlled to ensure the protection of the forest; seeing them always appeals to us, this time being able to observe an elephant with its small baby in the forest was superior to any other sighting.

Fue un placer observar leones, encontramos dos grupos, el primero un león, algo herido por sus últimas peleas, pero totalmente comprometido con marcar su territorio, pudimos observarlo en la soledad del medio día y apreciar sus prácticas de marcado además de las de limpieza y curación. Buscamos cerca y encontramos siete leonas y otro macho, descansando cerca de un lago cubierto de vegetación, solo observarlos en sus posturas relajadas produce descanso, haciendo de esto lo único importante; al final de uno de los días observamos una hermosa leona con dos cachorros, una cara bella y casi consentida we provoca infinita ternura.

It was a pleasure to observe lions, we found two groups, the first a lion, somewhat wounded by his last fight, but totally committed to marking his territory. We were able to observe him in the solitude of the midday and appreciate his marking practices besides his cleaning and healing. We searched close by and found seven lionesses and another male, resting near a small lake covered with vegetation; just watching them in their relaxed postures inspires rest, making this the only important thing. At the end of one of the days we observed a beautiful lioness with two cubs, a beautiful face inspiring infinite tenderness.

Nuestro viaje nos ha permitido apreciar  gran diversidad de storks, pero en South Luangwa pudimos conocer el Woolly headed stork así como apreciar en toda su belleza la garza más alta del mundo.

Our trip has allowed us to appreciate a great diversity of storks, and in South Luangwa we were able to see the Woolly-headed Stork as well as to appreciate in all its beauty the tallest Heron in the world.

En la exploración durante la noche volvimos a avistar bushbabie y por fin ver Genet, que había  estado cerca de nosotros en kafue pero nunca lo pudimos ver. Junto con ellos conocimos a Andrés y Deborah dos amables, alegres y abiertos viajeros, que vive hoy en Uganda y que compartieron con nosotros sus recomendaciones sobre los destinos futuros.

On a night drive we again spotted bushbabies and finally saw a Genet, which had been close to us in Kafue but which we never saw. On this drive we met Andrés and Deborah, two friendly, cheerful, and open travellers, who live at present in Uganda and who shared with us their recommendations on future destinations.

Para completar la experiencia pudimos visitar Tribal Textiles, una empresa que opera hacer 19 años creando prendas de algodón pintadas a mano, generando empleo para más de 100 hombres y mujeres, poder ver su producto y aprender sus métodos, fue enriquecedor y nos dejo ver una vez más la grandeza de la creatividad humana y su capacidad para construir con lo disponible.

To complete the experience we were able to visit Tribal Textiles, a company which has been operating for 19 years, creating hand-painted cotton cloth, generating employment for over 100 men and women; being able to see their products and learn their methods was enriching and let us see once more the greatness of human creativity and its capacity to build with what is available.

South Luangua, fue una experiencia llena en todos los sentidos y un destino comprensiblemente imperdible en Zambia.

South Luangwa, was a full experience in every way and an understandably unmissable destination in Zambia.
