When we finally arrived, Kalala and Chris met us, with a mixture of happiness and caution in their voices they welcomed us and warned us of the presence of a big male elephant in the camp, after saying hello, we asked "So what we need to do? and Chris with his natural style said "Come and have a cup of tea". we walked after him and when we came across the first fresh elephant dung he said "Look it is very big... lovely", we clearly understood that our time there was to be very different and it was.

Cuando finalmente llegamos, Kalala and Chris de dirigieron a nosotros, con una Mexicali de felicidad y cuidado en sus voces, ellos nos dieron la bienvenida y nos informaron que había un elefante nacho grande en el campamento, después de saludos pregunte: entonces que hacemos? Y cris con su estilo natural dijo: vengan y tomen una taza de té, caminamos detrás de él cuando una gran poco de elegancia a estaba al frente de nosotros dijo: miren es grande... lovely, claramente entendimos que nuestro tiempo en este lugar iba a ser muy diferente, y lo fué.

Kafue River

McBrides Camp is a very special place in Kafue National Park, each morning we were in front of the fire looking at the river covered with a soft white blanket of mist creating a magical atmosphere on the riverbank, as a prediction of the magical time that would be experienced every day.
When the sun rises the birds start exploring the river, some of them almost invisible on the sand, others flying and fishing for their first food of the day,
and others simply warming under the delicate sun light at that time; the hippos making their calls and for us it was to go and explore.

Kafue River

Mc Brides Camp es un lugar muy singular en Kafue National Park, cada mañana estábamos al frente del fuego, mirando el río cubierto con una manta blanca y suave de niebla, que creaba una atmósfera mágica en la rivera del río, como una predicción del tiempo mágico que experimentamos cada día. Con el amanecer los pájaros comenzaban la exploración del río, algunos de ellos en la arena casi invisibles, otros volando y pescando y otros simplemente calentándose bajo la delicada luz del sol a esa  hora, los hipopótamos hacen sus llamados y para nosotros tiempo de irnos a explorar.

This place, the home of Chris and Charlotte, is an invitation to respect the natural world, the way in which they create a relationship with the other living beings and demonstrate admiration for each element of nature is a lesson and at the same time a performance to be enjoyed. They are continuously present, and the call of a small bird is enough reason to interrupt any conversation and pay attention. There wasn’t a single moment with them in which we were not learning something new in a very relaxed manner.

Este sitio, la casa de Chris y Charlotte, es una invitación a respetar el mundo natural, la forma en que ellos crean una relación con lis demás seres vivos y demuestran admiración por cada elemento de la naturaleza fue una lección y al mismo tiempo una obra para disfrutar. Ellos están continuamente presentes, el llamado de un pájaro pequeño es suficiente razón para interrumpir una conversación y prestar atención. No hubo momento con ellos en el que no estuviéramos aprendiendo algo nuevo en una dinámica muy relajada.

Common Duiker at Night

We could walk in the bush, drive around the different areas and clusters of vegetation, explore the river on a boat, move around during the day and the night, and enjoy the organic places they have created for their clients. All of the buildings are made with local materials, very well integrated with  an intention of minimum impact on the natural environment; the animals move around the camp enjoying the grass and the diversity of trees; during the night it’s possible to hear their noises and sometimes spot them.

Pudimos caminar en el monte, manejar alrededor de las diferentes áreas y conglomerados de vegetación, explotar el río en bote, movernos alrededor durante el día y la noche y disfrutar los
lugares orgánicos que ellos han creado para sus clientes: Todos los edificios son hechos de materiales locales, muy bien integrados con el entorno, los animales se mueven alrededor
Para disfrutar los pastos y los árboles diversos, en la noche es posible our sus ruidos y algunas veces verlos.

Hippos in front the main camp

Chris and Charlotte are experts on and lovers of lions; during our time there we learned a lot about their behaviour, habits, and dynamics; also we learned about hippo, crocodile, puku, many birds, small cats, grasses, trees, warthog, bushbabies, bushbuck, water springs, elephant shrew and more. Every moment we had to be present and that brought a lot of freedom and energy.

Chris y Charlotte son expertos y amantes de los leones, durante nuestra estadía pudimos aprender muchos sobre su comportamiento, sus patrones y dinámicas, pero también aprendimos acerca de los hipopótamos, cocodrilos, pukus, hienas, pájaros felinos pequeños, pastos, árboles, warthogs, bushbabies, bushbuck, water springs, elephant shrew y más. En cada momento tuvimos que estar presentes y eso nos trajo mucha libertad y energía.

The social life was also stupendous, during the first three nights Joanne and Irwin, two amazing New Yorkers, were in the camp site; as at home we shared meals and activities, their presence was delightful and funny, so that we could laugh every minute together, and appreciated their special and almost unique capacity to get lost, including getting lost coming from and going to the campsite. Our time to chat and enjoy human presence was always accompanied by delicious food; the kitchen team did an amazing job cooking on an open fire - fresh bread and multicultural dishes were set on the table, and we have to say that the table was specially prepared at every meal with beautiful local crafts.

La vida social fue también estupenda, durante las primeras tres noches Jo-Anna and Irving, dos increíbles newyorkinos, estuvieron en el sitio, como si estuviéramos en casa compartimos las comidas y las actividades, su presencia fue interesante, deliciosa y divertida, pudimos reírnos cada minuto juntos y apreciar su capacidad, casi única, de perderse incluso en el campamento. Nuestro tiempo disfrutando de los demás humanos, siempre estuvo acompañada con deliciosa comida, el equipo de la cocina hace un trabajo sorprendente cocinando en fuego abierto, pan fresco y comida multicultural fueron disponibles en la mesa, y tenemos que decir que la mesa siempre fue preparada con linda artesanía local.

Lioness and cubs

Every day between midday and tea time was a formal time to rest: with the high temperatures and early rising for activities, our bodies claim to rest, shower, nap, and take time to read and explore the books available were a perfect combination.

Cada día entre mediodía y la hora de té fue una perdida formal para descansar: con temperaturas altas y madrugando por actividades, nuestros cuerpos reclamos para descansar, duchar, tomar una siesta, y tomar tiempo para leer e explorar los libros disponibles fueron una combinación perfecta.

The intense, tasteful, and relaxed experience in McBrides was completed with a beautiful encounter with a group of lionesses and cubs; seeing them in the morning enjoying the fresh air and preparing for hunting was exciting but also concerning - one of the lionesses had lost a back leg in a snare; the cost of poaching is immense on the wildlife - in this lioness in terms of its capacity to survive without the pride, but also for future generations who are now close to seeing the animals only in books, as extinct.

La experiencia intensa, rica, y relajada a McBrides se completó con el encuentro con un grupo de leonas cachorros, los vimos en la mañana disfrutando el aire fresco y preparándose para cazar,  fue excitante y a la vez preocupante - una de las leonesas había perdido una de sus piernas traseras en una trampa; el costo de caza ilegal es enorme - para está leonesa esta en juego su capacidad de sobrevivir fuera del grupo, y para las generaciones futuras que están cerca de ver los animales sólo en libros, como extintos.
