Leaving London for Nairobi

We've had a couple of busy weeks sorting out some of the last key tasks in the plan:

Hemos tenido un par de semanas ocupadas, atendiendo algunas de las últimas tareas claves en el plan:

- Botswana visa: despite having sought to provide everything needed for a 90 day multi-entry visa, the Consulate in Washington (reported to be the only place in the world where we could obtain the visa) gave us a 30 day multi-entry visa. We were able to specify the date of entry and have optimised this for our plans, however have to cancel our planned first entry and will now have to travel directly from Zimbabwe to South Africa, entering Botswana as originally planned as our second entry, from Namibia.

Botswana: despues de haber provisto todo lo necesario para una visa de 90 días multientrada, el consulado en Washington nos dió sólo 30 días. Pudimos especificar la fecha de entrada y para optimizar nuestro plan (y garatizar los requisitos para la visa de Namibia) tuvimos que cancelar nuestra primera visita y ahora tendremos que entrar directamene a Sur África desde Zimbabwe

- Namibia visa: obtained efficiently from the friendly and helpful London High Commission /Obtenida eficientemente en la servicial y amigable Alta Comision de Namibia en Londres.

- Alan's new passport: efficiently from the friendly staff at the passport office / eficientemente logrado con el amigable equipo de la oficina de pasaportes.

- carnet: picked up in Norwich on a wet and windy day./ Recogido en Norwich en un día húmedo y lleno de viento.

- warning triangles: it seems that the warning triangles needed for Zimbabwe are more or less unobtainable in Zimbabwe, nor can they be found anywhere in the region. Those obtainable in the UK meet EU legislation and do not meet the rules in Zimbabwe. However, those sold in the USA for trucking do meet the requirements and so we were able to pick up a kit at a truck stop on the way back to New York from Washington. / Triángulos de seguridad: parece ser que los triángulos de seguridad para Zimbabwe son mas o menos imposibles de obtener en Zimbanwe y en ningún otro sitio en la región. Los que pueden ser adquiridos en UK se ajustan a la legislación de la UE y no llenan los requisitos de Zimbabwe. Sinembargo, los vendidos en USA para camiones llenan los requisitos, así que compramos los mismos en ruta a New York desde Washington.

- a couple of items acquired from Amazon.com and received in New York: new solar charger (since we couldn't find the one we already have), battery charger and spare batteries for the 'ever-ready point and shoot" camera.  Un par de cosas adquiridas por Amazon, y recibidas en New York: nuevo cargador solar (despues de haber encontrado el nuestro) cargadores de bateria y baterias de repuesto para camaras.

So, we're now at the airport for our flight to Nairobi. Many thanks to Beate & Mark for their generous hospitality, company, and support during our days in the UK.
